When it comes to meal prep, having some staples on hand that are used frequently can save a lot of time and money at the grocery store. You can stock up when these items go on sale or shop for them in the bulk section or at a bulk-store like Costco. The staples I listed here have been monumental in helping keep my grocery costs low and my meal prep breezy
I tend to make a lot of oatmeal bowls and grain bowls so these ingredients make those accessible on a whim
Here they are!
PANTRY
Rice
Enjoy for breakfast as rice porridge, in rice and bean bowls, or underneath a delicious curry. I currently have a 50lb (22.7kg) bag in my pantry.
Quinoa
Another fabulous morning porridge option or in grain bowls or soups
Canned Beans
Super quick and easy option for last minute grain bowls
Oats
For all those epic oatmeal bowls, of course! Quick, rolled, or steel cut – your choice!
Nut Butters
Pair with fresh fruit, bulk up your oatmeal bowl, or spread on toast or pancakes
Nuts
Almonds, pecans, walnuts, cashews…Another great addition to fresh fruit, oatmeal bowls, nut cheeses, or ove salads
Seeds
Chia, hemp, pepitas… Load up your smoothie, salad, or oatmeal with lots of seeds for extra protein, fiber and healthy fats
FRIDGE
Tofu and Tempeh
Versatile protein for breakfast bowls, tacos, rice and bean bowls, or sandwiches
FREEZER
Frozen Vegetables
Stock your freezer with every frozen veggie possible to cut down on prep time. My personal favorites are mirepoix, greens, bell peppers, broccoli, edamame, peas, and potatoes
Frozen Fruit
Great for smoothies, breakfast toppings, nice cream, or rounding out a grain bowl. I keep pineapple, mango, berries, cherries, and leftover bananas on hand.
