Restriction: let’s briefly talk about it…
If you’re restricting your intake (e.g. calories, carbs, fat, etc.) and combatting hunger, you’re going against your biological cues. When you do this you are more likely to:
- Binge
- Not lose weight
- Be unhappy and dissatisfied
- Obsess over those “restricted” foods
- Feel guilt or shame when you give into cravings
When you restrict foods you enjoy eating, (and let’s be honest, food is meant to be enjoyed) you start to feel deprived, distressed, and discontent.
With this distracting world and our busy lives, a lot of us have fallen out of touch with how to eat food that tastes good and makes us feel good.️ It’s possible to enjoy food without focusing on restricting calories or food groups while still working towards your goals.
As a Registered Dietitian and Nutrition Coach, I do NOT use macro counting, calorie counting, or restriction with my clients -and- weight loss is never a primary goal (it can be a benefit with creating new, healthy habits).
For all my clients (whether eating the standard American diet or a mostly plant-based diet) the focus is eating foods without restriction that taste delicious, make them feel good, and help them reach their unique goals.
Eating more plants can come with its challenges. There’s a lot of nutrition noise out there, everyone has an opinion, and it can be confusing to figure out what works best for YOU. Working through these challenges and learning how to easily incorporate more plant-based foods into your diet and lifestyle can be helpful. Working with a plant-based dietitian to guide you through your unique journey and surrounding yourself with other like-minded people who are on a similar journey can be monumental. When you join my nutrition coaching program, you’ll get a highly customized, one-on-one experience to help you confidently and sustainably eat foods that taste good and make you feel good.
