We live in a world filled with fast food burger joints, “got milk” ads, and grocery stores overflowing with processed foods. It can seem quite daunting to live a more plant-based lifestyle.
I completely understand! Being raised on a beef farm, eating meat at every meal, and drinking milk because it “does a body good,” I did imagine life any other way.
For most of us, eating more plant-based goes against everything we’ve ever known. It’s not what we grew up on and it’s certainly not what society encourages.
For me, my GI issues became severe enough that I was forced to take one of two paths: Take medication the rest of my life and continue eating the standard American diet OR figure out the connection between my symptoms and what was on my plate.
One step at a time, I started researching and playing around with my diet. Baby steps. First, I removed meat and cow’s milk, then fish and cheese, then eggs, and lastly butter. Yep, butter was the last to go!️ It took me a couple years to fully adopt a plant-based lifestyle. The further down the path I went, the better I felt. I created habits that were:
I gradually improved upon them until they became routine.
Everyone moves at a different pace when it comes to transitioning to a more plant-based lifestyle and that’s okay!
Eating more plants can come with its challenges. There’s a lot of nutrition noise out there, everyone has an opinion, and it can be confusing to figure out what works best for YOU.
