I’ve spent the last seven years consistently working out. (It’s much easier said than done.) And I’ve spent most of my life eating bananas (my favorite fruit!).
When I first started Crossfit, I couldn’t do a pull-up, I did scaled push-ups, and I used the 15lb trainer bar. Remember, we all start at the beginning.
I remember seeing girls in the gym and thinking to myself, I can’t wait to be able to do that one day (specifically handstand push-ups)! The KEY to any goal is one word: consistency.
How can you stay consistent?
- Most importantly, you have to find a movement you enjoy and look forward to doing. Basically, it’s got to bring you joy first and then sweat.
- Make it a priority. Plan ahead and create time for it every week.
- Listen to your body and rest when needed. Sometimes, a pleasant walk in nature or gentle stretching is what’s needed. Rest days are the time our body uses to heal, recover and build muscle so we can hit the next workout even harder.
- Make it meaningful. Set goals and track your progress so you can look back and see how far you’ve come!
There’s something out there for all of us and especially right now, moving our body at home has never been easier with the abundance of resources available online. We just need to take the time and effort to look and the only way we’ll do that is if we make it our priority.
If you’re not feeling motivated to exercise, often times action precedes motivation! Sometimes you have to take action even when you’re not feeling up to it and motivation will follow. Look up a workout video and maybe it’ll inspire you to get up and move. Put your sneakers on and maybe you’ll suddenly feel like going for walk. A lot of small baby steps will add up to a big reward in the end but it’s all about staying consistent on a daily basis.
Eating more plants can come with its challenges. There’s a lot of nutrition noise out there, everyone has an opinion, and it can be confusing to figure out what works best for YOU. Working through these challenges and learning how to easily incorporate more plant-based foods into your diet and lifestyle can be helpful.
Working with a plant-based dietitian to guide you through your unique journey and surrounding yourself with other like-minded people who are on a similar journey can be monumental. When you join my nutrition coaching program, you’ll get a highly customized, one-on-one experience to help you confidently and sustainably eat foods that taste good and make you feel good.
