This dates back to a LONG time ago but it still stands!
There is so much meat produced these days and eating meat every day, even at every meal, has become the norm…but as humans we don’t actually need to eat it every day, if at all!
Even the dietary guidelines for Americans state in an effort to shift to more vegetable consumption…
“One realistic option is to increase the vegetable content of mixed dishes while decreasing the amounts of other food components that are often overconsumed, such as refined grains or meats high in saturated fat and/or sodium.”
Swapping your meats with more plant-based foods is possible! It just takes some time, planning, and figuring out what approach is best for you.
The reason why a lot of us continue eating meat is because it’s what’s familiar, it’s how we were raised. And trust me, I get it! Being raised on a beef farm, all I knew was meat at every single meal.
Instead of putting the focus on reducing meat consumption, emphasize putting more veggies/fruits/whole grains and legumes into your meals and you’ll find you don’t need as much meat on your plate.
Eating more plants can come with its challenges. There’s a lot of nutrition noise out there, everyone has an opinion, and it can be confusing to figure out what works best for YOU. Working through these challenges and learning how to easily incorporate more plant-based foods into your diet and lifestyle can be helpful.
