You know the saying, “It’s not you, it’s me.” In this case it’s the opposite, “It’s you [you being the diet], not me.”
First of all, what do I mean by “Diet”?
When I say “diets” I mean short-term, restrictive dieting for the purpose of a quick fix, often involving weight loss.
I’ve had several conversations with clients lately discussing their increased awareness of diet culture. It’s EVERYWHERE
And although many of my clients of tried “dieting” in the past, because they don’t anymore, it’s now disheartening for them to see loved ones worry about their weight, colleagues restricting their carbs, friends stressing over counting points, etc.
And to what avail?
95% of diets fail people
Why?
Dieting often places little emphasis your:
- Health and well-being
- Behaviors and habits
- Personalized needs
Dieting places more emphasis on:
- Telling you what you can and can’t eat
- Promoting weight loss as the outcome
- Promising short-term results
Again, 95% of diets fail people.
And all that WORRY going into dieting and trying to lose weight, what kind of impact do you think that has on your health?
You are NOT a failure when a diet “doesn’t work”. The diet is the FAILURE
Food is here for us to ENJOY and NOT stress over but that can often be challenging to grasp in a society constantly promoting weight loss and restrictive eating.
