We know that in general, the more plants we eat the better off we are. We know that plants are full of micronutrients, antioxidants, and beneficial fiber. But here are some of the benefits you might NOT already know about eating an entirely plant-based diet.
More Diversity
Did you know there are about 40,000 different varieties of beans?! How cool is that?! There is an abundant variety of plant-based foods awaiting to be eaten and we haven’t even scratched the surface. Some people may look at a plant-based diet as being too restrictive but in reality you’re only cutting out a few things: meat, eggs, and dairy. There are so many other plant foods you can put in their place!
Environmentally Friendly
My green-conscious friends, this way of eating contributes to less water usage, less greenhouse gas emissions, less land usage, and it’s a more efficient, direct means of eating (i.e. cutting out the middle man, literally, you don’t need a cow to eat those plants for you, just eat the plants yourself1)
Money Saver
Yep, it’s true! You CAN save money eating plant-based. It may look like a lavish way of eating but it’s not. Some of the least expensive foods on earth are plant-based:
- Beans
- Oats
- Rice
- Lentils
- Bananas
- Water
Improved Digestion
Most likely. If you’re transitioning over to a plant-based diet, get ready to poop a LOT more! There might be an adjustment with all that extra fiber your body isn’t used to yet, but it will adapt like a champ.
No Need to Be Hungry
You really won’t be hungry all the time. Trust me! You’re eating less calorically dense foods so you can eat a little more and possibly a little more often to eat the same amount of calories.
