Constipation at Christmas…I’ve definitely experienced it!
We all enjoy a bit more yummy food at Christmas, as we should! But this can mean that we are more likely to experience bloating and/or constipation!
So, here are some things you can do to help keep things moving and still enjoy all the foodie goodness:
Focus on the Fruits and Veggies
Even if you’re not plant-based, fill your plates with as many colofrul fruits and veggies as you can before diving into the plate of cookies. The extra fiber can help ease constipation. And the water content along with vitamins and minerals can keep any hangovers at bay should your eggnog be spiked.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Drink plenty of water alongside the eggnog. Water helps keep stools softer, prevents those nasty hangovers like I mentioned above, and generally just makes us feel BETTER.
Move your Body
Movement can really help. Bundle up, get outside, take a walk and check out the decorations!
Supplement if Needed
Digestive enzymes and/or probiotics may help keep things moving. Especially if you think you’ll be eating things your body might not be used to breaking down, a supplement can definitely help.
Manage your Stress
Easier said than done this time of year! Stress can also cause inflammation to occur in your gut, increasing constipation so be mindful of managing your stress and protecting your space. Don’t feel like you have to take on everything during the Holidays. They are meant to be enjoyed!
Eating more plants can come with its challenges. There’s a lot of nutrition noise out there, everyone has an opinion, and it can be confusing to figure out what works best for YOU. Working through these challenges and learning how to easily incorporate more plant-based foods into your diet and lifestyle can be helpful.
